Kapampangan hotel bell boy receives P300-T worth of 13th month pay and other back wages thru SENA
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – Edmundo Latoza Jr. today received his money claims amounting to P300,000.00 from his former employer, thanks to the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLEs) Single Entry Approach (SEnA).
 
The SEnA is a mediation intervention program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) that speeds up the resolution of various labor disputes.
 
DOLE Regional Director Atty. Ana Dione reported Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III that it only took one conference for Latoza and his employer to settle their differences.
 
“We are happy to report the good news anew on the benefits of coursing labor disputes to the SENA serving as an avenue for both management and workers to work out their differences in a very short amount of time and without incurring too much costs,” Dione said, adding:
 
“And in this particular SEnA Request for Assistance (RFA), we recognize management’s cooperation and willingness to the settle the small money claims of Mr. Latoza, even going as far as correcting the payments of wages and benefits accorded with its other workers.”
 
Latoza, who hails from Arayat, working as a bell boy for a local motel situated in the City of San Fernando, Pampanga, sought help from the DOLE Pampanga Field Office.
 
Supervising Labor and Employment Officer Aurita Laxamana, who was the SEnA Desk Officer (SEADO) handling Latoza’s Request for Assistance (RFA), facilitated the conference for both parties.
 
Laxamana said that Latoza’s money claims include non-payment of 13th month pay, additional wages, separation pay, service incentive leaves, as well as holiday, special, and rest day premiums.
 
“We had the opportunity to have sit down and have a dialogue with both parties to help them address the requesting party’s money claims and we’re happy note that in just our first conference, a settlement was reached between Latoza and his employer,” Laxamana explained.
 
As agreed during the conference, Latoza’s employer will pay him some P300,000.00, representing his various money claims, that will be payable within 10 months.
 
Latoza, who expressed his warmest thanks to the DOLE for helping him receive his money claims the soonest time, vouched for the SENA’s effectiveness in solving labor disputes.
 
“Sobrang nagpapa-salamat po ako sa DOLE sa pag tulong at pag antabay sa akin upang makuha ko ang aking separation pay, 13th month pay, at iba pang mga benepisyo na nararapat po para sa akin. Ito po ay panibagong simula para sa akin at ng aking pamilya,” Latoza said, adding:
 
“Para po sa akin, ang SEnA ay isang napakagandang programa ng DOLE kung saan mas pinapadali niyang maresolba ang anumang di pagkakaunawaan ng management at ng manggagagawa. Kung may problema po kayo sa trabaho, i-SEnA po ninyo.”
 
For those who need to settle their labor issues, either concerned parties may file their RFA in any of the nearest DOLE Field Offices and DOLE-attached agencies in the region.
