DOLE-NRCO announces 500k Business Plan Competition for Returning Seafarers
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – The National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) in Central Luzon, today, launched the search for the 2017 NRCO-ISP Business Plan Competition for Returning Seafarers.
Now on its third year, the nationwide competition, which is a joint project of DOLE-NRCO and the Integrated Seafarers of the Philippines (ISP), is opened to returning seafarers.
DOLE Regional Director Atty. Ana Dione said that the NRCO is now accepting applications for its regional entries for this year’s competition dubbed “From Seafarers to entrepreneurs.”
“This competition is opened to all Filipino seafarers, 25 years old and above who are interested in business enterprise upon their return in the country. Participants may either join individually or by groups with minimum of three members,” Dione explained, adding:
“We are encouraging our seafarers residing from different parts of Central Luzon to join this event. Just like our very own William Gaspay, we are hopeful that will have another winner coming from our region in this year’s competition and will also find the same success in his or her chosen livelihood entry.”
In 2015, Zambales-based OFW-Seafarer William Gaspay bagged the 1st Business Plan of the Year award and found success in his seaweed farm, an entry he used for the competition.
Unlike the past two years where only agri-business inclined proposals were accepted, this year’s competition will accept all start-up business plan proposals, regardless of industry.
Dione noted that the period of submission starts on July 12 and will last until September 1, 2017. The awarding ceremony is slated some time in November 2017.
“We are hoping for many entries in this competition because the Top 10 winners will be receiving incentives and other consolation prizes while the grand prize winner will be receiving a cash prize of P500,000.00, all to be put up by the ISP,” Dione said.
Interested parties may submit their entries at the DOLE Regional Office 3 at Diosdado Macapagal Government Center, City of San Fernando, Pampanga or at NRCO’s main office in Intramuros, Manila.
