Hanjin laid-off workers gain chances of employment

 

Subic Bay Freeport Zone – The Department of Labor and Employment Region III (DOLE III) headed by Regional Director (RD) Zenaida Angara-Campita in collaboration cooperation with Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA), the Build Build Build Program and other partner agencies held a jobs caravan on February 9, 2019. Dubbed as “Build, Build, Build = Jobs, Jobs, Jobs Caravan in Subic,” it captured some 4,500 job applicants almost half of which a total of more than 2400 were former Hanjin workers.

Available job vacancies were not only limited for construction workers but likewise for skilled technicians, engineers and administrative staff. RD Angara-Campita in her statement was very thankful to the 98 participating private companies which offered around 25,000 job slots. “A total of 186 were Hired-On-the-Spot (HOTS), of which 99 are Hanjin workers, and we are glad that 52% of Hanjin applicants were shortlisted as nearly hires,” she added.

This undertaking is in line with President Duterte’s Build, Build, Build Program. Job vacancies are also posted at the Build, Build, Build Philippine Infrastructure Transparency Portal where it catalogues projects foreseen to upsurge the productive capacity of the economy thereby creating jobs, among others.

DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III was in attendance together with Senator Richard Gordon, DPWH Secretary Mark Villar, DOTC Undersecretary Artemio Tuazon Jr, SBMA Chairperson/Administrator Wilma Eisma, and BCDA President Vince Dizon. This jobs caravan was in collaboration with DPWH, DOTr, DOF, DBM, DTI, BCDA and NEDA.

Other partner agencies present were Philhealth, HDMF and SSS. The Philippine National Red Cross team likewise was all ready to provide medical and first aid assistance during the event.

Some 4,500 job applicants crowd the Subic Gymnasium at Subic Bay Freeport Zone for the Build, Build, Build Jobs Caravan of the DOLE Region 3 in partnership with SBMA and other government agencies.
