A better-off life: says Suman vendor Bulacan

Guiguinto, Bulacan/April 11, 2019 – Guillerma Decear of Brgy. Daugnan of this town is a livelihood Starter Kit Program/Dagdag Puhunan beneficiary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 3 who is now earning more than Php 30,000 a month by making and selling suman(rice cake, made from glutinous rice). 

Decear, married with four children started her small business in 2009 with only Php 3,000.00 capital where she said to be earning ranging from Php 1,000 to Php 1,500 daily. In 2015, she narrated that the additional Php 5,000.00 provided by the DOLE helped raised her income up to Php 4,700.00 on an average.”Aling Lerma” as she is often called, sells suman three times a week and that that during the months of May and December, her income reaches up to Php 52,800.00.

To date, Aling Lerma revealed that through their earnest diligence as one family in their suman and kakanin business their lives totally changed. Two of her children finished college and are already working, Mila the eldest as a Community Marketing Officer in one of the prime telecommunications company and Nikki second to the eldest as an Account Officer in a private company as well. Further, Decear told recently that they were able to have their house reconstructed from bungalow to a 2- storey house. Humbly she added that they were able to buy a new tricycle as transport service of their product and has now established a good savings account. Truly she is thankful to the Municipality of Guiguinto and the DOLE for the assistance provided.”Ating pagyamanin, pahalagahan at huwag sayangin ang tulong na ibinibigay ng gobyerno, dahil sa sipag at tiyaga, kami ay nakabangon at talagang nagbago ang gaming buhay, dahil sa DOLE” 

In her delight, DOLE Regional Director Zen Angara- Campita expressed appreciation to Deacer for sustaining the assistance provided. ”The Department shall continue on its mandate in providing employment opportunities to the people in the community” Campita cited.
