This year, with the current administration’s “Build, Build, Build” (BBB) initiative, the BBB Inter-agency Committee also provided their utmost support in the over-all conduct of the job fair.

Preliminary reports show that a total of 3,751 individuals registered for the job fair. With the registered applicants submitting their application to multiple employers, the total number of qualified applicants numbered to 7,825. Employers from both local and overseas employment comprised of 141 local companies and 24 POEA-accredited overseas private recruitment agencies. 22 displaced employees due to the temporary closure of all Chuzon branches in Pampanga also joined the 2019 job fair.

“With the over 30,000 job opportunities in one roof available today, DOLE hopes to not only give assistance to our growing labor force but also to empower them,” said Regional Director Zenaida Angara-Campita. “Let this job fair be a feast of opportunities as we celebrate the hard work of our vigorous workers,” she added.

Indeed one of the most-awaited parts of the event, DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III, Civil Service Commission (CSC) Chairperson Alicia dela Rosa-Bala and Social Security System (SSS) Chairperson Aurora Ignacio finally signed the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Republic Act No. 11210 otherwise known as the 105-Day Expanded Maternity Leave Law. This was then followed by the ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement on Skills Training, Technical Education, Assessment and Certification for Returning OFWs and Joint Guidelines on the Issuance of Work and Employment Permits to Foreign Nationals led by high-level officials from DOLE, TESDA, DOJ and BI.

As a partner of the Department in the celebration of Labor Day, various agencies and private partners facilitated six batches of learning sessions on diverse topics to some 1,050 participants while some exhibitors from various MSMEs and selected beneficiaries of DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) showcased their own products for display and for sale. Session topics were Pre-employment Orientation Seminar (PEOS), How to Start a Small Business, PAG-IBIG Fund Updates on Membership Savings and Modified PAG-IBIG II (MP2) Program, OWWA Programs & Services for OFWs and Dependents, Philippine Qualifications Framework, and 21st Century Hiring Considerations of Hirers. POEA was also present throughout the fair providing legal assistance to both overseas recruitment agencies and employees.

In coordination with the Provincial Government of Pampanga thru its PESOs, over Php 3.4 million worth of Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES) checks were also turned over to 957 beneficiaries.

Alongside the job and business fairs, Former President and Congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo led a traditional groundbreaking ceremony of the DOLE-OFW Hospital and Diagnostic Center at the PEO Compound, Barangay Sindalan, City of San Fernando, Pampanga.

Present were DOLE officials as well as representatives from its attached agencies, OWWA, POEA, NRCO, NLRC and NCMB. Members from several agencies including DBM, BCDA, DOH, DOTr, and NEDA, among others, likewise graced the day-long activity. TESDA, PSA, SSS, PhilHealth and HDMF were also available to provide their pre-employment services to applicants.

The 117th Labor Day Job and Business Fair, one of the series of events to triumph the continuing contribution of the labor force in the region, highlights this year’s Labor Day festivities with its theme “Pagpupugay sa Manggagawang Pilipino.”
