20 displaced Marawi siege victims receive livelihood aid

TARLAC— Some 20 Marawi siege victims, together with 27 other members of the Pinagbuklod ng Masang Pilipino, Inc. (PIMAP) Tarlac Chapter received a total of Php200,000 worth of ready-to-wear (RTW) clothing merchandise from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Friday, 12th of July 2019.

DOLE Tarlac Field Office Head Aurita Laxamana reported to Regional Director Ma. Zenaida Angara-Campita that the 47 beneficiaries received their livelihood assistance through direct administration.

Senior Labor and Employment Officer David Estanislao, joined by PIMAP Chairman Maria Francia Cordero, and some RTW reseller-beneficiaries, purchased the goods in Baclaran Market, Manila.

According to Estanislao, after the Marawi warfare, most of the beneficiaries opted to stay in Tarlac to start anew and retail RTWs around different municipalities in the province. “We hope that with the additional goods provided, their enterprise grows into a viable and sustainable one. For them, what was given is not only a livelihood aid, but also another shot to their future,” Estanislao added.

Meanwhile, Laxamana emphasized that the Department remains committed to promoting entrepreneurship development by providing livelihood assistance to start-ups, small businesses, and cooperatives. She also said that the DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) is open to any group as long as the requirements of the program are met.
