50 new food carts distributed to Kapampangan beneficiaries of Arayat

ARAYAT, PAMPANGA— Fifty residents of the municipality of Arayat received new food carts from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on July 29, 2019 during the awarding ceremony held at Arayat Municipal Hall, Plazang Luma, Arayat.

DOLE Pampanga Field Office Head Arlene Tolentino reported to Regional Director Zenaida Angara-Campita that the given livelihood is worth a total of P1 million. According to Tolentino, all beneficiaries undergone an Entrepreneurship Development Training (EDT) to ensure the proper management of their livelihood projects.

Before availing the Kabuhayan Program of DOLE, most beneficiaries were ambulant vendors selling food products like popcorn, buko juice, banana cue and turon. While some chose to retain their previous products, others ventured to different goods.

Meanwhile, Nestor Pangilinan, one of the vendor-beneficiaries from the town of Poblacion, said that he expects that his income will be augmented through DOLE’s livelihood grant. “Napapanahon ang ayuda na ipinagkaloob ng DOLE sa amin dahil pasukan na naman ng mga estudyante. Ito ay malaking tulong para sa mga dagdag na gastusin kaya malaki po talaga ang pasasalamat namin,” Pangilinan said.

Before the awarding ceremony concluded, beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Department and its commitment to promote gainful employment opportunities.

“We always tell our beneficiaries that our livelihood flagship program is meant for less privileged individuals that we know will be putting it into good use. Through the years, individual projects such as the Nego-Kart or Negosyo sa Kariton have produced empowered entrepreneurs and capable business men and women,” Tolentino said.

According to Department Order No. 173 s. 2017, DOLE Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP) or Kabuhayan Program is the agency's contribution to the governments’ agenda of inclusive growth through massive job generation and substantial poverty reduction.
