64 SPES student-beneficiaries paid of 20-day salaries

Tarlac City, TARLAC, November 5, 2020 - The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. III through its Tarlac Field Office released the salaries of sixty-four (64) beneficiaries under the Special Program of the Employment of Students or SPES.

DOLE Regional Director Ma. Zenaida Angara-Campita reported to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III that each SPES beneficiary received P10,061.80 for 20-day work rendered or a rate of P503.09 per day. “While 60% of their total salary was paid by their employer, the Provincial Government of Tarlac (PGT), 40% was shouldered and already released by DOLE,” RD Campita said.

The distribution of checks was facilitated by DOLE Tarlac headed by Aurita Laxamana in partnership with the provincial government of Tarlac (PGT), through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO), led by Tarlac Governor Susan Yap.

Meanwhile, Maureen Briones, 23 years old and currently in her second year in Philippine Women’s University, was one of the beneficiaries of the SPES program in Tarlac. In an interview, Maureen expressed her gratitude to DOLE and Tarlac PESO for being the bridge that led her to being one of the chosen beneficiaries of the program.

Maureen added that the program has not only given her a monetary value equivalent to her salary, but also additional useful experience and knowledge while “on the job”. “Malaki ang naitulong sa akin sa pagkakaroon ng dagdag kaalaman at ideya sa totoong larangan ng pagtatrabaho. Mas lumawak at nahubog and aking kakayahan o skills lalo na’t natutuhan ko ang pagkakaroon ng time management skills at mabuting pakikitungo sa mga katrabaho,” Maureen said.

Underscoring the importance of both knowledge and experience especially in searching for jobs, RD Campita reminded the student-beneficiaries that it is not only the salary that they get from the SPES program. “When it is time you rummage around companies and job postings, I hope you always remember what you have learned inside a real workplace. Sometimes, the difficulty is not in the job itself, but being unfit for the role or organization. In addition to your credentials, being able to effectively deal with people of all sorts will get you where you want to be moving. Hopefully, for that part, DOLE has contributed to your growth,” RD Campita said.

The 64 student-beneficiaries are among the 278 SPES placement of PGT for the year 2020. In October, 55 SPES beneficiaries who worked in the City Government of Tarlac also received their salaries from DOLE.
