DOLE's Free Bike Project in Pampanga and Bulacan kickstarts with 21 beneficiaries

City of San Fernando, PAMPANGA, December 8, 2020 - The Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office No. III launched the Free Bisikleta “Freebis” Project in Pampanga and Bulacan with 10 and 11 beneficiaries, respectively.

The Freebis Project was a concept formed because of the restricted movement of people due to the community quarantine and threat of COVID-19. Under the project, beneficiaries are tapped as riders providing food and non-food delivery services.

Regional Director Ma. Zenaida Angara-Campita said that the project supports small-time vendors and delivery service providers. “Because of the quarantine, many of us rely on food delivery services especially those that started working from the comfort of their homes. Being one of the main concerns of our Kababayans, all beneficiaries will undergo orientation which includes safety and health,” RD Campita explained.

During DOLE’s 87th anniversary celebration on December 8, 2020, 11 individuals from Pampanga received their bikes, together with other accessories such as an isolation bag, bicycle rack, Freebis shirt, masks, and reflectorized vest. Each recipient also received a new cellphone and e-loading wallet as part of their livelihood package.

Some 10 individuals from the City of San Jose Del Monde in Bulacan received the same Freebis package on November 24, 2020.

According to RD Campita, each package is worth P20,000 totalling P420,000 for the first 21 beneficiaries.
