In Talavera, DOLE distributes livelihood and TUPAD salaries to beneficiaries

Talavera, NUEVA ECIJA, August 6, 2021 - Some 327 beneficiaries from Talavera, Nueva Ecija received their nego-karts and wages under the Department of Labor and Employment’s livelihood assistance project and emergency employment program.

The back-to-back distribution of “Negosyo sa Kariton” (nego-kart) and pay-out of salaries under Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) was held on July 29 and August 6, 2021, respectively.

In her short message to the beneficiaries, DOLE Nueva Ecija Head Maylene Evangelista emphasized the importance of turning the vending carts the beneficiaries have received into a sustainable livelihood. “Sana ay itong naibigay na kabuhayan sa inyo ay huwag po ninyong sayangin sa halip ay inyong pagyamanin para makatulong sa panggastos ng inyong pamilya sa araw-araw,” Evangelista said. (We hope that the livelihood provided to you does not go to waste but rather grow to help your family with their daily expenses.)

The recipients of the livelihood package were ambulant vendors selling different products from fresh vegetables to other consumer goods.

Meanwhile, the 277 worker-beneficiaries received Php 4,200 each as their salaries for 10 days of work rendered. While on the job, they were also provided with personal protective equipment (PPE) and micro-insurance.

In an interview, DOLE Regional Director Geraldine Panlilio said that the agency’s livelihood and employment programs continue to be in full swing amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. “These programs target our most vulnerable and low-income fellow men that are gravely affected by this situation,” RD Panlilio mentioned.

Also present during the distribution of livelihood and wages are Talavera Mayor Nerivi S. Martinez and PESO Manager Dr. Jose Emana.
