64 jobseekers get hired on the spot in virtual job fair

Ligtasan, TARLAC CITY, February 18, 2022 - The Department of Labor and Employment and the city government of Tarlac recently held the Angel Hearts Day Virtual Job Fair offering a total of 1,584 job vacancies. In the post job fair report, 64 of the 447 registered job seekers were hired on the spot (HOTS) on February 16, 2022.

Joanne Michelle Cacabelos, one of the reported HOTS, has been looking for a job since her branch closed in January this year. “Mahirap po maghanap ng trabaho dahil ang iba matataas po ang qualifications,” Joanne said. [It is difficult to find a job because some have high qualifications.]

Fortunately, through the virtual job fair, Joanne landed a job as an accounting clerk at New Butterworld Bakeshop.

From the 447 who registered for the job fair, 131 qualified for the vacancies of 19 participating companies.

Jelly Lilac, human resource manager of New Butterworld Bakeshop, said that another 4 to 5 applicants are scheduled for their final interview and are most likely to be hired. Although she admitted that she is still not completely used to the mechanics of a completely virtual job fair, Jelly said that the virtual job fair was “masaya and for safety (during) this pandemic”. [It was fun and for safety reasons during this pandemic.]

Meanwhile, DOLE-III Regional Director emphasized in her message the importance of collective effort from the Department’s partners, one of which is the local government unit of Tarlac City. “As we take on the race to finally put an end to this pandemic, we hope that you will all be inspired to put in a lot of hard work and commitment for the pursuit of your dreams. It is an effort we cannot achieve in the Department if we do it alone, thus we need you to work (with us) hand in hand,” Panlilio furthered.

The virtual career fair carried the theme, “Trabaho, Negosyo, at Kabuhayan Para sa Mamamayang Tarlaqueno”. ##
